The Role

The PF Counselling Service requires a proactive, experienced, self-motivated Director to take up the leadership of the organisation, due to the retirement of our current Director.  They will be responsible for sustaining our core service, building on our reputation for high quality affordable professional counselling, and enabling us to flourish over the coming years.

The PF Director has both clinical and organisational responsibilities, ranging from managing the flow of clients from application to ending, across to the financial sustainability and the future development of services.  Although the staff team is small, the role also includes the recruitment and management of a large and diverse team of volunteer counsellors.

We are a leading provider of practice placements for students studying counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland.  The Director therefore also maintains relationships with a range of local and national institutions providing professional counselling training.

The Person

The new Director will have a proven ability to lead and manage all aspects of a small charitable organisation of the dimensions of the PF, and be able to demonstrate the capability to proactively identify and meet their own development needs.  Managing a team of volunteer professionals is key to the role, and so the successful candidate will be able to evidence the knowledge and experience required to do this in a way that consistently attracts and retains high-quality practitioners.

This is a leadership position for the next phase of evolution for the PF Counselling Service. The new Director will be confident to function as an executive board member and a trustee, and as the chief officer of the charity responsible to the Board for the delivery of its agenda.

They are likely to be a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist with significant clinical experience, and/or someone who has extensive understanding and experience of the work and culture of counselling practice.  They will ideally be a trained and experienced counselling supervisor.

They will be an excellent communicator and a team-builder, experienced in the recruitment, motivation and management of a small high-performance staff team.  A strategic planner and a creative thinker, they will be able to demonstrate their capacity to use initiative in the context of good governance.

The Director will have the ability to understand and direct financial management and annual budget/accounting processes appropriate to the size of the PF.  They will have experience of developing and using networking opportunities for organisational sustainability, service development, professional promotion, and fundraising.

If you have a proven track record in organisational and counselling leadership, sound clinical experience, third sector ‘business’ insight, and the energy and acumen to move the PF forward, then we would really like to hear from you.
