Urgent Help

Application Form for Counselling at the PF

Counselling may help you if you have a sense that something is not quite right and it's beginning to affect your quality of life on a day to day basis. When we feel like this we can often identify and resolve the issues behind these feelings by ourselves. However, sometimes things can seem more complex and confusing and we may need additional support to find a way forward. Counselling at the PF offers this support in the form of a confidential environment with professional help to explore and identify the root problems, while working towards resolving them. Sometimes the basis for these feelings is clear and we may have issues such as

  • bereavement or loss

  • difficulties in relationships

  • self esteem

  • childhood issues

  • depression, anxiety or isolation

  • stress
  • work issues

  • sexual difficulties/sexual identity

  • abuse

  • spiritual or existential issues

At other times, it is not so clear as to what triggers the feelings. Either way, counselling at the PF could help.  Counselling is also available for those who want to explore their own potential for personal change or growth.

At the PF you can expect a professional service where you will be given the opportunity to:

  • talk over your situation in confidence

  • reach a better understanding of your difficulties

  • decide on the best way forward for yourself

The PF offers up to 12 sessions of counselling initially, with an option of extending to longer term work.

Appointments

We aim to offer an initial appointment with one of our Assessment Counsellors within two to three weeks of receiving your completed application form. At your assessment appointment you will be given the opportunity to:

  • discuss your concerns

  • hear about what counselling could offer you

  • find out how the service works

  • talk over whether you think counselling is for you

  • agree how much you will be able to contribute towards the costs of your counselling

  • discuss suitable counselling times for you

If at the assessment session it is agreed that counselling would be helpful for you then your name will be placed on our waiting list and you will be offered a regular weekly counselling appointment as soon as we have a suitable counsellor available. Please note evening sessions are in higher demand and the wait for these may be longer.

Regular sessions last for 50 minutes and you would need to be available for these on the same day and time each week. Sometimes only a few sessions are required and you and your counsellor will know if it is appropriate to end sooner than the initial 12 sessions.  After this period you can discuss with your counsellor whether to extend to longer term work.

Fast Track Service

We have a Fast Track service designed for clients without financial restrictions who would like to be seen immediately by a qualified counsellor. The service is provided using appointments on Friday afternoons and Saturdays, when the PF is otherwise closed.

There is a fixed fee of £40 per session. If you would like to apply for counselling under the Fast Track Service please complete the on-line application form and indicate that you are willing to pay the Fast Track fees. On receipt of the form you will be contacted by telephone or email to arrange an initial appointment. If after the first appointment you decide that you would like to continue you will be offered ongoing weekly appointments at £40 per week, where possible with the same counsellor who has seen you for assessment, until the work is completed.
